THE PROJECT
Arven is one of the UK’s largest floating wind sites, set to lead industrial-scale deployment. Located about 30 kilometres off Mainland Shetland, Arven has 2.3 GW capacity spanning two sites: a 1.8 GW site in the NE1 area and a 500 MW site to the south.
Named after the Norwegian word for “heritage,” Arven reflects both the long-term potential of offshore wind and Shetland’s Norse roots. The project’s logo features the Norse rune for ‘energy,’ honouring this connection.

PROJECT LOCATION
Arven will be located approximately 30 kilometres from Mainland Shetland, with a water depth of roughly 100 meters—perfect conditions for floating wind technology. In regions where sea depths exceed 60 meters, floating wind is the best solution.
ARRAY AREAS
This is the main site for offshore energy generation, where turbines will be placed. The exact number of turbines will depend on several factors.
This area will also host offshore substations – platforms that gather the electricity produced and send it to land through underwater cables.
OFFSHORE EXPORT CABLE CORRIDOR
This is the area containing the subsea export cables which will transmit the electricity from the array areas to the landfall.
LANDFALL
This is the area of a coastline where the offshore export cables come ashore and meet the onshore transmission infrastructure.
ONSHORE EXPORT CABLE CORRIDOR AND ONSHORE SUBSTATION
This is the onshore area containing buried transmission cables that will connect the array areas to a new onshore substation.
